Catherine Cabeen is a former dancer with the Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company (1997-2005) and the Martha Graham Company, among others. Cabeen currently dances for Richard Move’s MoveOpolis(2006-present) and in her own work.
In addition to her work with Hyphen (her project-based, interdisciplinary, performance company) Cabeen frequently choreographs for independent commissions. During the summer of 2011, she was Emerging Choreographer at Bates Dance Festival.Western Washington University, Marymount Manhattan College, Middlebury College, Cornish College, Dance Fremont, and Texas Women’s University have commissioned her work for students. She has created work on professional dancers for Donald Byrd’s Spectrum Dance Theater, Moving People Dance Theater, and Alsarab Dance Company in Byblos Lebanon.
Catherine Cabeen’s visual art is part of her meditative practice. Her colorful hand drawn works aim to inspire healing through contemplation of the integration of color, sacred geometry, occult symbolism, and the body. Her work has been published in Gigi Berardi’s 2005 Finding Balance, and has been shown at several small galleries in New York City.
